Article: What is RPO?

It is one of the most common questions we get asked. Even by some HR professionals. Recruitment Process Outsourcing is a hiring model that has been around for the last decade and offers a flexible solution for your HR team.

Whether it is bolstering your existing recruitment function for a specific hiring campaign or outsourcing the process entirely, an RPO offers you and your HR team the ability to scale your recruiting up or down based on the demand from the business.

Why use an RPO?

Nowadays, not only are business leaders more accepting of this sort of flexible hiring model, they are driving towards it. This is due to the fact that an RPO model allows their HR team to focus more on workforce delivery & performance, which ultimately drives up revenue.

Resourcing has traditionally been seen by many business leaders as a source of unnecessary costs. You will notice that when it comes to a business saving money, a hiring freeze is often first on the agenda. Using a flexible RPO resourcing model prevents wasting time and resources because it offers an affordable and, more importantly, scalable solution to your recruiting needs.

What does an RPO look like?

Now, there are three main RPO models that can Ventiro offer their clients globally.

  1. Full Talent Life-cycle: This is the process where a business chooses to outsource the entire end-to-end recruitment function to Ventiro, from Employer Branding campaigns through to new hire onboarding. This can be fulfilled with either in-house recruitment experts on-site or working remotely to fulfill your hiring needs, all under the clients brand. This is the most comprehensive RPO solution.

  2. Point of Service: This is one of our favorites and offers minimum disruption to the existing Recruitment process. Ventiro augments what already exists and delivers certain aspects of the process that needs support. For example, our In-house recruitment expert could support with sourcing and selection of talent, including managing the process, up until onboarding and payroll.

  3. RPO Project: This is the shorter term option that allows more flexibility. It can be either the full life cycle model, which means the client uses Ventiro’s systems for the full process, or Point of Service. The project will be for a defined period of time/hiring campaign. This really offers a flexible option to expected or unexpected hiring peaks to reduce the burden of existing recruitment team.

What benefits can it have?

Depending on the RPO model you choose and provided you are accessing an RPO provider that offers access to in-house recruitment skills and experiences, there are multiple benefits your HR team can experience.

Immediate benefits:
The immediate benefits are the more operational ones. No only will you will gain access to flexible, on-demand, in-house recruitment experience but you will access a streamlined recruitment process based around technical efficiencies and experience data. It is scalable, which means you can increase or decrease your usage depending on your short term hiring needs. Lovely.

Short term benefits:

The short term benefits is the impact on your businesses bottom line. Your cost-per-hire will decrease whilst your time-to-hire will (hopefully) does the same. With an RPO, you will face much lower placement fee’s, if any at all, which is great news for your CFO.

Longer term benefits:

Many RPO providers will claim that using their model will provide low staff turnover rates and increased quality of hires, this can only be achieved with the right fit provider. If they can get under the skin of your culture and bundle that up with your values, offer the best candidate experiences and deliver quality candidates for the role, then you will see your QoH go through the roof and your staff turnover slowly decrease.

This will also, of course, depend on the RPO model you choose. If you are simply helicoptering in support for a hiring spike, then the longer term benefits will be minimal. However, if you were to look at a full life-cycle RPO, then the longer term benefits will be well within reach.
